It’s Official

We moved! As of July 10th we were officially Washington residents. I had meant to get to this update earlier -- aside from the normal moving chaos and getting settled, I had forgotten how glorious the Pacific Northwest summers can be and I just haven’t been able to make myself sit at my computer. All still beautiful but it’s time to share the progress.

The move went surprisingly well -- some tears were shed on the way out of town—sad to leave all of our friends in the Napa Valley but once on the road we were focused on this next adventure. Other than the 26’ Penske truck not fitting through our gate and Joe having to move everything from a 1/2 mile away with his 4 wheeler and an old garden cart, very (Napa Valley, not Beverly) hillbilly, all went smoothly—even moving a horse, 3 goats and a sheep across 2 states went down without even a hiccup. With a lot of long days and my obsessive side in full gear we were pretty settled in the house by the first of August. We have a lot left to do on the property and the barn isn’t finished but for the first time EVER, with lots of houses under our belt, Joe has finished the last 5% on the inside of the house, a sign that he’s really happy here. A little hard not to be happy when you wake up to this every morning

And when you spend a good part of your time mountain biking and fishing …

So now for the house. From where we started on this project, I never would have thought it would turn out as well as it did — we really like everything about the inside of the house and the way the spaces live, by far the best house we have had. With the barn giving the kids a place of their own, the house works with room for kids, guests, dogs … even though it’s really not that big. It’s a beach house and it kept it’s soul -

The outside is coming along but still a work in progress, here’s a peak for now -

Will keep you posted on the barn and property progress and will try to be more timely on my posting— it will start to rain and get dark at 4 pm so will have lots of time to sit at my computer but for the first time in many years we have a real Fall to soak in before it starts to rain. For now here are some more reasons we feel like we made the right move -

Until next time ….
