It’s getting reAL

I have been a bit overwhelmed with it all these last few months and the progress, although significant, didn’t translate well in pictures so I figured I’d take a break from reporting the details. Just got back from spending 2 weeks on the property, we are less than 3 months away from move in and it finally feels like this new adventure is real. The amount of work that remains is still daunting but our vision for the house is really coming together. I realized on this trip that it’s not the house that overwhelms me, it’s the property - we will be pulling weeds for the rest of our lives! It rains in Washington, not as much as it did when I was growing up but it rains and everything it seems grows there, and quickly. This is all good, just need to come to terms with the work load and appreciate that we can now grow Peonies, Lilacs, Roses …. and have a lawn. Now that everything is in bloom we discovered there is a giant dogwood tree in front of the house. We planted 3 dogwoods in Calistoga for each of our past dogs and it was a sad thing to leave behind when we sold our house, now we have a giant one for all of them!

I finally have a few pictures of progress that are starting to translate the vision -

The soapstone counters just went in and the appliances, all Fisher Paykel, are in the barn and ready to go. The island will have butcher block, still working on that detail. All of the interior and exterior doors are painted Benjamin Moore Repose Gray with Rejuvenation unlacquered brass hardware on the exterior doors and Emtek oil rubbed bronze for the interior doors. The ceilings are all open beam and have been painted BM Simply White and also both bathrooms and some of the main living space walls are vertical pine shiplap that are painted the same. Tile is almost done in both bathrooms and the brick floors in the guest bath, laundry and hall are going in this week. The walls that aren’t pine are going to be a warm, neutral plaster as well as the kitchen hood. We have worked with the same plasterer in the Napa Valley for the last 20 years - thankfully he was willing to head North for this project. It wouldn’t be the same to have a house without Noah’s plastered walls, love them.

Refinishing the floors, exterior paint, crushed oyster shell patios, the driveway and the barn are still to do but A Lot has happened, thanks to a very hard working husband and a great crew of guys - we are really getting excited about this house! Move in July 11, stay tuned …
